Violinist Andy Bhasin’s solo and chamber music performances have taken him around the United States, Europe, Central and South America. As a chamber musician, Andy has collaborated with Wolfram Koessel, Rita Porfiris, as well as members of the Emerson and Chiara String Quartets. He has been coached by the Boromeo, Brentano, St. Lawrence, Miami, Pacifica, and Takacs String Quartets. He has performed in the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra, the New World Symphony, and played under the baton of Carl St. Clair, David Robertson and John Williams. He has been a featured performer at numerous festivals including Music Academy of the West, the Festival Eleazar de Carvalho in Fortaleza, Brazil and II Festival Internacional de Musica Erudita de Piracicaba in Piracicaba, Brazil. Andy has performed in prestigious venues such as the Gasteig in Munich, Germany, Merkin Concert Hall at the Kaufman Music Center in New York City, and debuted at Carnegie Hall as a prizewinner of the American Protege International Concerto Competition. His playing was featured in Daniel Nearing’s 2014 feature film Hogtown.
As a conductor, Andy has participated in the 2019 International Conducting Masterclass with Markand Thakar and studied orchestra conducting with Mark Shapiro as part of Julliard’s Evening Division. He has worked as assistant conductor of the Stony Brook University Opera’s production of Benjamin Britten's Turn of the Screw under Timothy Long and Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra under Nick Armstrong. He is currently the orchestra director at Yorktown High School and Fordham University, where he conducts the Fordham University Symphony Orchestra and Lincoln Center Chamber Orchestra.
Andy studied under Roland and Almita Vamos at Northwestern University and earned his Bachelor’s degree from New York University. He holds a Master’s degree in Violin Performance with an emphasis in Suzuki Pedagogy at the Hartt School as a student of Anton Miller and Teri Einfeldt and a Master's degree in Music Education from Hunter College as part of the Lincoln Center Scholars Program. He was granted a Doctor of Musical Arts degree under Soovin Kim while studying conducting under Timothy Long at Stony Brook University.
